Earlswood progress in Smedley-Crooke Cup

EARLSWOOD put their dismal league form behind them and beat Lichfield City Under-21s 3-1 to progress into the second round of the Smedley-Crooke Cup.

With Earlswood without a league win to their name and Lichfield top of their league having won all eight of their games to date it, looked like an interesting tie.

After an even first half Zac Cogger snapped up a chance in the 45th minute to put Earlswood into a half-time lead.

Cogger added to his goal nine minutes into the second half to put Earlswood well in command and 12 minutes later Chris Hanson extended their lead in a half which Earls were on top.

The home team did get a consolation goal in the second half but Earls were well worth their victory.

This result now needs to be taken into their Midland League Division 2 league fixtures as Earlswood desperately need to get some points on board.

They have drawn Midland League Division One side Bromsgrove Sporting, now managed by former Earlswood manager Paul Smith, at home at Malt House Lane in the Quarter Final of the Competition on a date to be announced.
