CYCLING: ELIOT Blundell was victorious at the first event of the season for Rugby Cycling Club (RCC) in Willoughby and Dunchurch.

The five-mile time trial, held on the A45-based Willoughby to Dunchurch course, attracted a field of 40 riders and was a typical early season event, with chilly overcast conditions although it remained dry throughout.

This was also the first event for the club’s age categories, introduced to add more competition to those riders in the ‘veteran’ category.

Blundell completed the event in a time 11 minutes and 14 seconds to claim first place, with Greg Brookes finishing as runner-up in 11.21 and 18-year-old Ellis Pullinger was third in 11.45 in what was his first race for the club.
