RUGBY rider Gary Hipwell missed out on a podium finish at Round Eight of the BWQ West Midland Cyclocross League.
The event returned to Blackwell Court in Worcester after a six-year hiatus from the venue which provided riders with many technical challenges as racing progressed.
In the morning’s veteran race for riders over the age of 50, Hipwell managed to get a good start and spent two laps with eventual race winner Kevin Payton.
But as the race leaders turned up the wick, Hipwell fell back to fifth place after a dire final lap saw him fall off the podium, but it was still his top result this season.
In the junior race, Steven Humphreys took on Stratford CC’s Keir Lewis for a race-long battle for second place, but Humphreys was overhauled into third by the end which was still a fine effort from the young rider.
In the afternoon it was the turn of the senior riders, with Jordan Peacock holding third early on in the race.
He was pushed back to fourth in the latter stages but it was yet another top result.
