NICKI Siarbawa’s hat-trick sent Rugby & East Warwickshire Ladies’ first team on the road to victory on their return to action against University of Birmingham.

The 5-2 friendly win offered a useful warm-up for REWHC ahead of their return to Midlands Womens Premier action on the first weekend of February.

Kirby Harris and Stacey Keeley were also on target for the hosts in a match that they dominated throughout.

In Division One of the Warwickshire Womens Hockey League, Rugby & EW Seconds were ousted 2-1 by Solihull Blossomfield’s first team.

Jess Naylor’s penalty flick gave the hosts the lead, though Solihull overturned the scores despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Gracie Gerrard.

Rugby stay sixth despite the loss.

The men’s first team were clear losers in their Midlands Men’s Hockey League clash with Hampton-in-Arden.

Goalkeeper Danny Bell helped keep the scoreline down with some remarkable saves, enough to earn him the man-of-the-match award.

Rugby drop two places to fourth in Midlands Division One as a result of the defeat – their fourth of the season.

The efforts of the second team were in vain in their 6-3 home loss to Coventry & North Warwick’s first team in Midlands Division Two.

Gaz Unett, Euan Walker and Tom Smith were all on target for Rugby, but were unable to help keep their side on the right side of the scoreline.

A vital 3-2 win over Warwick 2nds has helped lift the spirits of the third team in East Midlands Premier.

Alex Salter, Joe Manning and Harry Kirkbride struck to give Rugby just a third win of the season, keeping them in tenth but with a view to catching the sides above them.

A single goal decided the fourth string’s trip to Loughborough Town, which went the way of the hosts in South East Division One.

Freddie Taylor was a man in form in goal for the away side, making a string of saves to keep his side in with a shout.

Rugby remain sixth in the division.

The top-three battle between the club’s fifth and sixth sides took a twist in the latest round of fixtures in South East Division Two.

Rugby’s sixth string were 1-0 victors over Nuneaton 2nds, taking advantage of the fifth’s 2-0 defeat to Warwick 4ths.

The gap between Rugby’s sixth team, who are third, to the second-placed fifth string has now been cut to four points after 12 games played.
