A RESOUNDING victory in the final round of the Mercian League in Leamington Spa capped of a fine season for Rugby Swimming Club.

The final round included teams who placed 13-18 in the overall table and Rugby were placed 18th after missing one previous round because other other commitments.

It left the club in the un-favoured lane six but with the swimmers positioning themselves next to the lane, and with the parents all grouped together, the ‘Rugby Roar’, as it is now known, was in full evidence.

The team spirit and support amongst the swimmers is being matched by the parents and their backing and their support on the touchline is really making a difference.

Rugby led from the front from the very first point check after ten events and kept moving further ahead as the races went on, eventually finishing well clear of the chasing pack.

They finished with a total of 237, with Kingsbury finishing behind on 199, Nuneaton came third on 172 and they were followed by Solihull (157), Beeches (144) and Etwall Eagles (129).

Rugby had 22 wins over the evening, but equally importantly, only finished fifth and sixth a total of four times, which is what made the difference in the team events.

They were also helped by not having one single disqualification across 50 events which is unheard of at that level.

The team consisted of Harriet Troupe, Max Green, Cerys James, Luke Anspokes, Maddie Haywood, Gleb Popov, Abbie Dolly, Jess Mackenzie, Luie Gilroy, Charlotte, O’Brien, Dan Carey, Megan Williams, Jack Carey, Ellen Armeson, Anna Farrow, Lana Wilson-Shrubb, Rhys James, Aaina Muralidhur, Devesh Chohan, Simon Rigg, Erin Lloyd, Rachel Lloyd, Jasmine Rigg, Aofie Williams, Ethan Fletcher, Nathaniel Kayada, Olivia Guyatt, Mairead Williams, Lucas Marshall, Aaron Kirkaldy.

A well-deserved summer break is now upon the Rugby team who are still looking to recruit from years seven to nine for next season.
