FOOTBALL - Advertiser Cup final to be played between two of Rugby's oldest clubs

THIS year’s Advertiser Cup Final will be played between two of Rugby’s oldest clubs – Hillmorton and Community Relations Club (CRC).

CRC are believed to be one of the oldest clubs in the Midlands and currently have a first-team and veterans team who won their division this season.

Their opponents, Hillmorton, were established in 1969 and have teams from under 5’s through to the two senior sides who have both made finals next weekend.

Hillmorton Reserves have made the final in their first year as a team after local football legends Andy Gilroy aged 45 and Lawrence Watson aged 42 wanted one season playing with their 17-year-old son’s who are both called Charlie.

For such a young team to get to a senior final is quite an achievement.

CRC manager Paul Taylor is a hugely popular and respected individual whilst Hillmorton are managed by Steve Heighton.

Admission is a £1 donation to the Warwickshire Air Ambulance.

The Advertiser Cup Final takes place on Sunday, May 1 at Rugby Town’s Butlin Road ground with kick-off at 11am before Rugby Borough play Hillmorton’s first team at 2pm.
