FOOTBALL - Bourton and Frankton beaten by Kenilworth Wardens Reserves

DANNY McMANUS struck twice in vain as Bourton and Frankton were beaten 4-2 by Kenilworth Wardens Reserves in their first game of the new year.

McManus kept his side in the contest before the break and then further reduced the deficit in the second period after doubling his tally.

However, Kenilworth proved too strong for Bourton and leapfrog them in the table.

The result means Bourton are now sixth in the Coventry Alliance League Division Three table having won just three of their 12 matches this season.

Despite a battling performance from the visitors, Bourton trailed 3-1 at the break after the home side raced into a three-goal lead.

However, McManus found the net to give his side some hope heading into the interval before adding his second after the break to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

Bourton were unable to find the elusive equaliser to complete the comeback and the Wardens went down the other end to wrap up the points with a fourth goal in the closing stages.

Bourton and Frankton are next in action at home to Balsall and Berkswell Hornets on Saturday, January 15 with kick-off at 2.15pm at The Field.
