CHEVEZ Walder’s goal helped Bourton and Frankton battle to a 1-1 draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Balsall and Berkswell Hornets.

Walder equalised for Bourton shortly after Balsall had taken the lead as the visitors were held to their first draw in the league this season at The Triangle.

The result means Bourton sit fourth in the Coventry Alliance League Division Three table, seven points off the top with three games in hand.

A frantic start ensued as Balsall enjoyed the majority of the possession before Bourton grew into the game as the first half progressed.

However, Balsall broke the deadlock midway through the first period when a free-kick caught the Bourton defenders and goalkeeper off guard as the ball bounced in the penalty area and looped in.

Bourton responded almost immediately when Walder latched onto Ed Spencer’s long pass and beat a Balsall defender to slot home and bring the visitors level.

Chances were at a premium in the second half with neither side able to find a winner as Bourton stretched their unbeaten run in the league to six matches.

Bourton are next in action at home to Coventry Phoenix Thirds on Saturday, February 25 with kick-off at 2.15pm at The Field.

Elsewhere, Bourton and Frankton’s under-14’s team beat Hillmorton 3-0 in the Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Football League.

In what was the third meeting between the two teams this season, Bourton took the lead inside six minutes as Thomas Constable converted a penalty into the bottom corner.

However, Bourton player Adam Nowak suffered a nasty fall which meant he was forced to retire from the match with 55 minutes still to play.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Bourton doubled their lead midway through the half as Max Smith slotted home.

And Bourton extended their lead five minutes into the second half as Constable rounded the goalkeeper from Freddie Young’s through ball to all but seal the win as Denzel Costa starred in midfield to help the home side record a clean sheet.
