FOOTBALL - Bourton and Frankton see final fixtures of year frozen off

Rugby Editorial 21st Dec, 2022 Updated: 21st Dec, 2022   0

BOURTON and Frankton’s league commitments for the calendar year were ended by the weather last weekend with both of their scheduled fixtures postponed for the second week running.

The adult senior side’s Coventry Alliance League Division 3 fixture away at Kenilworth Wardens and the under-14’s home meeting with local rivals Hillmorton in the Coventry and Warwickshire Youth League both fell foul of frozen pitches.

It means both teams will return to league action in the New Year, with the adult seniors away at Shilton on Saturday, January 7 whilst the under-14’s have to wait until Sunday, January 15 for their return when they host Meriden Lions.

Before then Bourton and Frankton will once again be keeping a tradition alive by hosting their annual Boxing Day morning fixture on Monday, December 26.

Barring the odd weather cancellation and Covid, the annual game between the Marrieds and Singles has been played out for over 60 years and in keeping with the last few years the two sides will be playing for the Harry Smith Memorial Trophy.

The match will be played at Hart Field on Lower Hillmorton Road with a 10.30 am kick-off time, with players requested to arrive as close to 10am as possible.

Food and drink will be available with donations accepted to Papyrus.
