CAINE Elliott netted a brace as Rugby Town kept their title hopes alive with a crucial 2-0 win away at Godmanchester Rovers.
Elliott opened the scoring after just four minutes and sealed the points at the death from the penalty spot at Jubilee Park.
The result means Rugby trail leaders Coventry Sphinx by four points in the United Counties League Premier Division South table with a game in hand.
Carl Adams’ side made the perfect start when Elliott steered a controlled low half-volley into the net at the back post from Tom Fielding’s deep cross.
And Valley sealed the points on 90 minutes when Michael Taylor was fouled in the box by Declan Rogers and Elliott notched his 12th goal of the season with a confidently taken penalty.
Rugby are next in action at home to Eynesbury Rovers on Saturday, April 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
