TOM Fielding and Jordan Wilson both scored hat-tricks as Rugby Town won 6-3 against Histon in an extraordinary game at Butlin Road.

Fielding opened the scoring as the teams went in level at half time before scoring twice more in the second period to complete his treble.

And Wilson netted a second-half hat-trick as Valley romped to victory to extend their unbeaten start to 10 matches.

The result means Rugby remain top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table, four points clear of their closest challengers.

And Fielding started the goal fest on eight minutes when he squeezed the ball past Histon goalkeeper Sam Roach at his near post from Barry Fitzharris’s pass.

Histon equalised on 15 minutes when Dan Brown tapped home into an empty net after Marcus Cole capitalised on hesitancy between Matt Hill and Loyiso Recci.

Rugby restored their lead on 49 minutes as Wilson powered a header into the net from Caine Elliott’s cross from the left.

And Town pulled clear of Histon on 55 minutes when Fielding scored from Dan Summerfield’s low cross.

However, the visitors reduced the deficit within two minutes as Luke Lindsay profited from another defensive mishap to score with Recci unable to clear Rugby’s lines after the former’s shot was palmed in by Hill.

Valley eventually put the game to bed on 77 minutes as Wilson finished off a fine team move which ended with Fielding squaring the ball to his strike partner.

And Fielding then completed his hat-trick with a confident finish past Roach on 81 minutes from Luke English’s searching through ball.

Substitute Andrew Henderson scored Histon’s third goal in the final minute of normal time before Wilson completed the scoring in injury time from the penalty spot after David Kolodynski was fouled in the box.

Rugby are next in action at home to second-placed Coventry Sphinx on Saturday, October 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
