DAVID Kolodynski’s goal helped 10-man Rugby Town to a 1-0 win against Sutton Coldfield Town on the opening day of the season.

Kolodynski scored the game’s only goal in first-half injury time as Valley held on to claim victory on their return to step four football despite Roger Lee’s red card on the hour mark at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby sit seventh in the Northern Premier League Midlands table after one fixture.

In a half of few chances, Kolodynski broke the deadlock three minutes into time added on at the end of the first half with a flicked header from Karabo Motshweni’s corner.

However, Valley lost Lee to a red card on the hour mark after the midfielder needlessly kicked out at Sutton’s Ceesay Dampha.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Rugby kept their opponents at bay for most of the remaining half an hour as James Bowen blazed Sutton’s best chance over the bar.

Rugby are next in action Quorn on Tuesday, August 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Farley Way.
