ROGER Lee’s injury-time own goal saw Rugby Town suffer a late 2-1 defeat against high-flying Loughborough Dynamo at Butlin Road.
Dan Summerfield’s first-half goal looked to have won the game for Valley only for Evan Garnett to equalise for Loughborough with seven minutes left to play.
And Lee then put through his own net six minutes into injury time as Rugby suffered an eighth successive defeat in all competitions.
The result means Valley remain in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone, one point from safety.
Rugby took the lead through Summerfield’s 29th-minute strike as the midfielder smashed the ball home from Caine Elliott’s lay off.
The home side had chances to extend their lead only for Loughborough keeper Lewis King to deny Silvano Obeng before Jordan Wilson hit the crossbar.
And Karabo Motshweni spurned a glorious chance to seal the points for Valley in the second half as King made another crucial save to keep the visitors in the game.
Loughborough piled on the pressure in the second period as both Jonathan White and Tom Marshall hit the bar in quick succession.
And the pressure eventually told as Garnett drew Dynamo level on 83 minutes with a fine finish from Mo Bangura’s cross.
The away side stole the points at the death when Lee inadvertently turned Bangura’s cross into his own net in a cruel late twist.
Rugby are next in action away at bottom of the table AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday, October 28 with kick-off at 3pm at Hayden Road.
