RUGBY Borough exited the FA Cup at the extra preliminary stage following a 4-0 defeat against higher division Darlaston Town.
Darlaston, who play one level above Borough, struck twice in either half to settle the tie at Kilsby Lane.
Despite the final scoreline, Borough made a bright start as Gez McCahey saw his early effort from distance blocked by the Darlaston defence.
Borough goalkeeper John Meadows made a crucial save moments later to keep the scores level.
And Meadows made another excellent save later in the half with the ball destined for the top left corner.
However, Darlaston eventually broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Rivel Mardenborough scrambled the ball over the line.
And the visitors struck again on the half-hour mark as Kieran Miller found the net to double Darlaston’s lead.
Borough fought valiantly in the second half only for Darlaston to extend their lead just past the hour mark as Miller scored his second goal of the game.
And Jake Pearson completed the scoring on 71 minutes with Borough unable to find a consolation goal despite their best efforts.
Rugby continue their league campaign against St Neots Town on Saturday, August 10 with kick-off at 3pm at Rowley Park.
