FOOTBALL - Rugby Borough secure two wins in as many days to maintain title charge

RUGBY BOROUGH secured two wins in as many days against the division’s bottom two sides to move eight points clear at the top of the table.

Borough saw off Fleckney Athletic 4-2 last weekend before then securing a 2-0 win at home to Ashby Ivanhoe Knights on Monday night.

The two victories mean Rugby are now eight points clear at the top of the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division, with two games in hand on the teams below them.

Borough were without several players for their clash with Fleckney but went ahead through Halim Halim when he latched on to Lee Thomas’s cross.

And Halim returned the favour soon after as Thomas doubled Rugby’s lead before Halim added Borough’s third goal shortly before half time.

However, Fleckney pulled a goal back early in the second half before Halim completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot for his second treble of the season.

The visitors pulled a goal back at the death with a penalty of their own but it was too little too late as Rugby eased to the points.

And Borough backed up that victory with another win against Ashby Ivanhoe Knights just two days later also at Kilsby Lane.

First-half goals from Dale Linton and Tommy Glasscoe secured a sixth straight win for Borough who remain on course to claim the league title.

Rugby are next in action against Ellistown FC on Saturday, March 12 with kick-off at 3pm at the Terrace Road Ground.
