DANI STATHAM’s third goal of the season helped Rugby Borough Women on their way to a 1-0 win against Cookley Sports Ladies.
Statham netted in the first half to ensure Borough claimed back-to-back wins for the first time since October.
And the result means Rugby have moved up to sixth in the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Division One South table, leapfrogging Cookley in the process.
Borough were rewarded for an impressive start when Statham found the back of the net from Bailey Wiggett’s through ball to head into the break with a one-goal lead.
And Rugby remained resolute in the second period, often catching out their opponents with a high line, with goalkeeper Beth Daly forced into a couple of crucial saves.
However, Cookley spurned a great chance to equalise when they hit the crossbar late on and were unable to convert the rebound.
Borough’s Women are next in action away at league leaders Solihull Sporting Ladies on Sunday, March 20 with kick-off at 2pm at John Henry Newman Catholic College.
