DANI STATHAM scored a second-half brace as Rugby Borough Women won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Leamington Lions.

Statham’s first goals for the club came after Suzzie Vango and Tammi Davies had struck to put Rugby in command at the break.

The result means Borough sit seventh in the West Midlands (Regional) Women’s League Division One South table, as they try and chase down a number of teams above them.

And Rugby went ahead through Vango midway through the first half before Leamington levelled following a quick break up field.

However, a stunning free-kick from Davies found the top corner minutes before the interval to send Rugby into the break with a one-goal lead.

And Borough picked up where they left off in the second half when Statham scored her first Rugby goal after being played in by Michelle Oldfield.

Statham then quickly grabbed her second of the game with a goal of the season contender to put the tie to bed.

The visitors threatened a comeback with two quickfire goals of their own but Borough held on to claim an impressive three points and their first win in five matches.

Borough are next in action away at Cookley Sports Ladies on Sunday, March 13 with kick-off at 2pm at Cookley Playing Fields.
