FOOTBALL - Rugby put five past Biggleswade as Kolodynski nets 250th for club

DAVID Kolodynski scored his 250th Rugby Town goal as Valley cruised to a 5-0 win against Biggleswade United.

Kolodynski brought up the landmark with his second goal of the game after Justin Marsden netted twice in the first half with Caine Elliott completing the scoring.

The result means Rugby remain third in the United Counties League Premier Division South table after securing a third successive victory.

Despite a bright start from the visitors, Rugby took the lead on 15 minutes when Marsden steered the ball into the bottom corner after Kolodynski had bamboozled his marker on the right-hand side.

Valley spurned a couple of chances soon after when Elliott hit a free-kick into the arms of United keeper Michael Hudson before Edwin Ahenkorah blazed over.

And Marsden doubled his tally for the game on 25 minutes when he curled a fine effort past Hudson from Harry Eden’s cut back after the verteran player-assistant manager shot over from close range moments earlier.

Chances continued to flow Rugby’s way when Barry Fitzharris had a shot deflected wide whilst Madundo Semahimbo could only find the side netting.

And it was almost three for Valley when Ahenkorah’s shot from distance was pushed onto the crossbar by Hudson before a mix-up between Eden and Ash Bodycote almost led to a calamitous own goal at the other end.

The points were sealed on 53 minutes when Kolodynski produced a calm finish after Elliott had stolen possession on the edge of the Biggleswade box.

And Kolodynski scored his second just three minutes later when he tapped home Luke English’s cross from close range to chalk up his 250th goal for the club.

Rugby added their fifth goal on 67 minutes when Elliott burst through the middle of the United defence before confidently stroking home.

Town keeper Bodycote was forced into a neat low save to deny Taylor Rhiney before Semahimbo saw curling effort tipped away by Hudson as Valley secured a comfortable victory.

Rugby are next in action away at Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday, April 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Seargeant’s Lawn.
