RUGBY Town sealed their place in FA Cup First Round Qualifying with a comfortable 3-0 win against Stone Old Alleynians.

Valley led at the break courtesy of Harrison Nee’s goal before Liam Francis and Ryan Sahota both struck after the break at Butlin Road.

The victory means Rugby are in the hat for the First Round Qualifying draw which takes place on Monday, August 19 at 1pm.

Rugby survived an early scare against the Midland Football League Premier Division side when goalkeeper Paul Hathaway spilled Joe Baxter’s cross only for Kacper Mikulski to somehow miss the target from close range with the goal gaping.

Valley responded with a chance of their own as former Rugby goalkeeper Raajan Gill kept out Trey Charles’ initial header and then headed the follow-up over the crossbar.

And the home side broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when Nee tapped home Dan Summerfield’s cross from close range following a flowing team move.

Valley went close to doubling their lead as Nee smashed an effort against the crossbar as Hilton Arthur put the rebound wide.

Carl Adams’ side remained on top after the break as Gill kept out Summerfield’s header before then tipping Tayo Tucker’s effort from 20-yards out over the crossbar.

Rugby eventually stretched their lead on 55 minutes when player-assistant Francis headed in Charles’ corner at the near post.

And Valley completed the scoring in injury time when Sahota finished Mikey Taylor’s square pass to seal a fine victory.

Rugby are next in action against Shepshed Dynamo on Tuesday, August 20 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
