FOOTBALL - Rugby Town boss Adams still believes club will avoid relegation

CARL Adams still believes his Rugby Town side will have enough to avoid relegation following a difficult run of results.

Valley lost 5-1 at home to Spalding United last time out following a heavy 6-0 defeat at Anstey Nomads.

And with the club just two points above the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone, Adams insists the mood in the Valley dressing room is positive.

Adams said: “It was always going to be a tough ask against a team doing so well near the top, but I do think the final score was a little harsh on us based on the game as a whole.

“I still believe that we have enough here within the squad to save ourselves this season though, and the mood in the dressing room is still a positive one.

“We’ve got another difficult game this weekend at Hinckley, but hopefully the run of fixtures we have in April allows us to pick up the points we will need to survive.

“It’s increasingly looking like it’s two from three to fill the relegation places, although if one or two of us can get a run going then maybe (Coventry) Sphinx could be dragged back into the mix.”

Sphinx’s latest draw – their twelfth of the campaign – increased their advantage over Rugby to six points with a game in hand, with both Gresley and Rushden also having played one less than Town.

With Rugby keeper Tomasz Bukowski fully fit again, he will challenge Paul Hathaway for the place between the sticks at Hinckley, with Harrison Nee also available for selection once more.

Rugby are next in action away at Hinckley Leicester Road on Saturday, March 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Leicester Road Stadium.
