RUGBY Town claimed back-to-back league wins for the first time this season with a 3-0 victory against rivals Coventry Sphinx.

After a goalless first half, Sam Tye, Josh Thomas and Stan Anaebonam all found the net to stun Sphinx at Butlin Road.

And the result means Rugby sit 12th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table as Valley stretched their unbeaten run to four matches.

The game burst into life on 48 minutes when Patrick Zito fouled Rivel Mardenborough in the box and referee pointed to the spot.

Midfielder Caine Elliott saw his penalty saved by Sphinx goalkeeper Charlie Woods only for Tye to follow up and find the net.

And Valley doubled their lead on 73 minutes when Thomas nodded in from close range after Tye headed a corner back across the face of goal.

The home side sealed the points five minutes from time as Anaebonam pounced on some slack defending and duly scooped the ball over Woods to complete the scoring.

Rugby are next in action against Loughborough Students on Tuesday, October 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
