RUGBY Town cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory away at Histon on the opening day of the 2026/27 season.

The returning Devonn O’Sullivan put Valley ahead before debutants Ryan Bridgewater and Nathan Scott both found the net for the visitors at Bridge Road.

And the result means Rugby sit fourth in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.

Valley named returning players O’Sullivan, goalkeeper Ash Bodycote and defender Steph Morley alongside six debutants in their starting line-up.

Grant Joshua’s side made the perfect start to the campaign when O’Sullivan cushioned a first-time shot into the net from seven-yards out with the season nine minutes old.

The visitors thought they had doubled their lead soon after only for Jake Wormleighton to see his header from Jake Duffy’s corner ruled out for a foul.

Histon improved after the break as Bodycote raced off his line to deny Mar-Lee Fisher with the latter through on goal.

And Bridgewater then made a vital goalline clearance after Finley Edwards rounded Rugby keeper Bodycote.

However, Valley doubled their lead on 63 minutes when Bridgewater connected with Duffy’s low, whipped free-kick as the ball deflected off home defender Lil Francisco and ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net.

And the visitors added a third goal seven minutes from time as substitute Scott arrowed a shot into the net from 25-yards out from O’Sullivan’s lay-off following a short corner.

Rugby are next in action against Moulton on Tuesday, July 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
