RUGBY Town dropped into the relegation zone after losing at home for the first time this season in a 3-1 defeat against Coleshill Town.

Harrison Nee gave Rugby hope after the break only for Sam Tye’s late goal to seal the points for the visitors after Josh Hesson and Ben Usher-Shipway netted in the first half at Butlin Road.

The result means Valley sit 19th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, just inside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Coleshill broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when Hesson finished off a swift counter attack after collecting Ollie Sweeney’s pass and poking the ball past Paul Hathaway.

And the visitors doubled their lead six minutes before the break as Usher-Shipway finished from close range after Rugby failed to clear their lines at a corner.

Valley improved after the interval as Trey Charles fired wide when well-placed before Coleshill goalkeeper Bradley Clarkson denied Mikey Taylor.

Rugby eventually halved the deficit on 74 minutes when Nee turned home Ethan O’Toole’s deflected cross.

And Valley went close to an equaliser when Taylor sent Charles’ corner wide of the post from close range.

Coleshill made sure of the points on 89 minutes as Tye flicked home Alex Tomkinson’s corner at the near post as Valley saw their winless run stretch to nine matches in all competitions.

Rugby are next in action against Hinckley Leicester Road on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Leicester Road Stadium.
