RUGBY Town dropped into the relegation zone following a 3-0 home defeat against Sutton Coldfield Town.

Valley suffered a fourth straight league defeat as an early goal from Joseph Hull and a Reece Gibson brace condemned the home side to defeat at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby drop into the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone, one point from safety.

Sutton broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when Ryan Edmunds’ corner from the left bounced in the box and Hull reacted quickest to head the loose ball into the net at the back post.

And the visitors doubled their lead on 27 minutes after Rugby goalkeeper Charlie Woods stood on the ball and fell over which allowed Gibson to gleefully roll the ball into an empty net.

Gibson all but sealed the points for Sutton five minutes before half time when he volleyed home James McGrady’s cross from the left from close range.

Valley looked to reduce the deficit before the break as Sam Tye saw his initial effort strike an arm in the box before James Wren tipped his second attempt around the post.

Chances were at a premium after the break as Woods denied Gibson a hat-trick while Wren saved substitute Teddy Rowe’s effort late on.
