RUGBY Town completed their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 3-1 victory against North Leigh.

Goals from Ethan O’Toole, Hilton Arthur and MJ Semahimbo helped Valley to victory at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby head into the start of the competitive season on the back of successive wins.

Valley boss Carl Adams was without Mikey Taylor and David Kolodynski as trialist Justin Mensah started in midfield in the absence of Chris Clements who will miss the start of the campaign.

Rugby made a strong start against their Southern League Division One South opponents as O’Toole marked his arrival with a goal after just six minutes when he turned in Tayo Alexander-Tucker’s deflected cross to open the scoring.

O’Toole had another chance to double Rugby’s lead but failed to hit the target while Ryan Sahota’s spectacular overhead kick from the edge of the area went narrowly wide.

The home side doubled their lead six minutes after the break as Arthur stretched a leg out to turn in Trey Charles’ cross which ricocheted into the six-yard box.

Substitute trialist Josh Yeboah spurned two chances to extend Rugby’s lead when sent clear through on goal before the visitors reduced the deficit with eight minutes left to play.

Callum Rai’s misplaced pass allowed North Leigh into the area with substitute Liam Francis only able to clear against his own man in the area which allowed the visiting striker to round the goalkeeper and finish into an empty net.

However, Valley restored their two-goal lead when substitute goalkeeper Jake Alley sent a long ball in behind the North Leigh defence and Semahimbo held off his man before lifting the ball over the keeper via the aid of the post.

Rugby begin the season with a trip to Wolverhampton Casuals in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday, August 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Brinsford Stadium.
