FOOTBALL - Rugby Town rescue FA Cup replay after crazy 10-goal thriller against Malvern

JOSH Thomas scored a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser as 10-man Rugby Town secured a replay against Malvern Town following a crazy 5-5 draw in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

Thomas netted six minutes into time added on after Valley had earlier surrendered a three-goal lead at Butlin Road.

The home side raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of a brace from David Kolodynski inside the opening 10 minutes before Loyiso Recci put through his own net to bring Malvern back into the contest.

However, quickfire goals from Jordan Wilson and Roger Lee put Rugby back in command as the home side took a three-goal lead into the break.

Malvern struck twice at the start of the second half through Harry Clark and Lewis Platt to reduce the deficit before Valley’s Barry Fitzharris saw red for a second bookable offence with a quarter of an hour to play.

And the visitors made the most of the man advantage to score two goals in the space of four minutes to complete a sensational late turnaround.

However, there was still time for one final twist as Thomas produced a brilliant finish from substitute Dan Summerfield’s cross to secure a replay at the death.

The two step four clubs will meet again in the replay on Tuesday, August 8 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.
