FOOTBALL - Rugby Town strike twice in injury time to finish season with dramatic victory

RUGBY Town scored two injury time goals to finish the season with a dramatic 2-1 win against Potton United and secure a third place finish in the league.

Valley trailed to Dave Parkinson’s early goal only for Loyiso Recci to equalise in the first minute of added time before Josh Thomas snatched the points two minutes later at The Hollow.

The victory means Rugby finish the season in third place in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.

Potton deservedly led at the break through Parkinson’s eighth minute strike from 12-yards out but were unable to increase their advantage despite creating a host of chances.

Rugby improved after the break without creating a clear-cut chance before Potton substitute Cole Butler was sent to the sin bin on 85 minutes.

And that sparked Valley into life as Recci powered a header into the net from James Hancocks’ excellent delivery from the right.

Rugby scored again in the third minute of injury time when Thomas turned home Hancocks’ drilled corner to spark wild scenes of celebration and ensure Valley ended the campaign on a high.
