RUGBY Town suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Coleshill Town as Valley saw their two-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Second-half goals from George Washbourne and Jonathan Letford condemned Valley to defeat at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby sit 18th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points above the relegation zone.

Home goalkeeper Paul Hathaway made a flurry of early saves to keep out efforts from Sam Fitzgerald, Chris Cowley and Ben O’Hanlon.

At the other end, Rugby’s Dan Summerfield fired a shot narrowly over the crossbar as the first half ended goalless.

And the home side spurned a good chance to take the lead at the start of the second period as Mikey Taylor fired agonisingly over the bar.

Coleshill broke the deadlock on 56 minutes when Washbourne applied an impressive finish from Alex Tomlinson’s defence-splitting pass.

And the visitors sealed the points three minutes from time as substitute Letford coolly stroked the ball home after good work from Chris Cowley out wide.

Rugby are next in action away at Anstey Nomads on Saturday, March 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Cropston Road.
