DAN Summerfield scored a stunner as Rugby Town ended their seven-game winless run with a 2-1 victory against Hinckley LRFC.

Summerfield doubled Valley’s lead on the half-hour mark after Jahvan Davidson-Miller opened the scoring at Butlin Road.

Hinckley quickly reduced the deficit courtesy of Dom Brennan’s freak goal as Valley held on to secure their first win of the New Year.

The result means Rugby sit 19th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points from safety in the relegation zone.

Ian King’s side started brightly as debutant Daniele Reka poked wide before Trey Charles saw his effort saved by the legs of Jake Laban.

However, Valley deservedly broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Davidson-Miller finished from close range to score his first goal for the club.

And Summerfield doubled Rugby’s lead on 30 minutes with a stunning first time strike into the top left corner from 25-yards out.

However, Hinckley halved the deficit five minutes later as Valley goalkeeper Paul Hathaway dropped Brennan’s harmless looking free-kick over his own line.

Valley had chances to extend their lead after the break as Laban twice denied Charles while Ben Humphreys headed over for the visitors late on.

Rugby are next in action against Lye Town on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
