CAINE Elliott’s second-half goal earned Rugby Town a hard fought 2-1 win away at Cogenhoe United as Valley claimed an 10th successive victory in the league.

Elliott grabbed the winner on 71 minutes after Jordan Wilson’s early goal opened the scoring which was cancelled out by Jamie Hall’s leveller just before half time at Compton Park.

The result means Valley lead the United Counties League Premier Division South table by 13 points from second-placed Coventry Sphinx who have four games in hand.

Wilson opened the scoring after just five minutes when he finished on the rebound after Elliott’s initial shot was saved.

However, Cogenhoe drew level one minute before the interval when Hall finished from close range to send the teams into the break all square after an end-to-end half.

The introduction of MJ Semahimbo from the bench turned the game back in Valley’s favour as his superb run set up Elliott to score the winner when he powerfully poked the ball home.

Rugby are next in action at home to Godmanchester Rovers on Saturday, February 4 with kick-off at 2pm at Butlin Road.
