RUGBY Town exited the FA Cup after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Basford United in Second Round Qualifying.

The Southern League Premier Central side, who play two steps higher than Rugby, proved too strong for Valley as goals either side of half time condemned the visitors to defeat at Greenwich Avenue.

And Basford took the lead on 42 minutes when Anthony Dwyer drilled home a 40th-minute penalty after Loyiso Recci was penalised for handball following a direct free-kick.

The home side doubled their lead on 50 minutes when Notts County loanee Luther Munakandafa tucked the ball home beyond Matt Hill after Ben Starkie found himself in behind the Valley defence.

Rugby are next in action at home to Rothwell Corinthians TONIGHT (Tuesday, September 20) with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
