JORDAN Wilson scored twice against his former club as Rugby Town finished the year with an emphatic 5-2 win against local rivals Lutterworth Town on Boxing Day.

Wilson scored either side of the break with Edwin Ahenkorah, Dan Summerfield and Ryan Seal all on target at Butlin Road as Valley secured a seventh straight win in the league.

The result means Rugby remain 10 points clear at the top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table.

And Valley made the perfect start when Wilson opened the scoring after just two minutes when he slid the ball between the legs of Lutterworth goalkeeper Warren Butlin after he ran onto Caine Elliott’s chipped pass.

Rugby spurned a number of chances to extend their lead before Lutterworth levelled on 32 minutes when Valley goalkeeper Matt Hill misjudged Karabo Motshweni’s corner and allowed the ball to travel directly into the goal.

However, Valley replied almost immediately and were back in front within two minutes when Ahenkorah fired a sensational strike into the net from 30-yards out.

Carl Adams’ side extended their lead early in the second period on 49 minutes when Wilson doubled his tally for the afternoon with a close range finish from David Kolodynski’s cross.

Lutterworth reduced the deficit on 55 minutes when Hanibal Sallami ran through on goal and twisted and turned his way into the box before firing home off the underside of the crossbar.

Valley eventually put the game to bed on 77 minutes when Summerfield’s well-placed header found the bottom corner from Seal’s deep cross.

And Rugby added their fifth goal in the final minute of regulation time as Seal showed neat footwork to control Madundo Semahimbo’s cross and prod the ball home.

Rugby are next in action at home to Long Buckby on Saturday, January 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
