RUGBY Town guaranteed a place in the end of season play-offs and kept their title hopes alive with a thrilling 4-3 win against Eynesbury Rovers.

Captain Loyiso Recci scored what proved to be the winner in the second half after Michael Taylor, Jordan Wilson and Liam Francis put Valley ahead on three separate occasions at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby must win in midweek to take the title fight to the last day with Valley four points behind leaders Coventry Sphinx in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.

Carl Adams’ side took the lead on 14 minutes when Taylor grabbed his second goal in as many games with a powerful finish from a tight angle after he outmuscled an Eynesbury defender.

However, Eynesbury levelled on 21 minutes when Victor Osubu latched onto a through ball and produced a confident finish past Lewis Gwilliams.

The home side reclaimed the lead on 39 minutes as Wilson headed home Ryan Seal’s cross only for Osubu to score his second of the game on the counter attack on the stroke of half time.

Valley led for a third time on 55 minutes when defender Francis squeezed a header into the net from Seal’s corner.

And skipper Recci sealed the points on 72 minutes with an impressive volley after Taylor’s initial effort had been blocked.

Eynesbury reduced the deficit through Ben Farrell’s 84th minute goal but Valley held on to secure a third successive win.

Rugby are next in action away at Milton Keynes Irish on Tuesday, April 18 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Manor Fields.
