RUGBY Town missed out on a new club record win streak after Valley conceded an injury-time goal to lose 1-0 at home to Desborough Town in midweek.
Valley went into the fixture on the back of 13 straight wins having equalled a club-record with a 3-0 victory at Easington Sports last weekend.
However, Iain Blaikie’s goal three minutes into injury time ensured Desborough snatched the points and denied Rugby the chance to rewrite the history books at Butlin Road.
Despite the defeat, Valley sit 14 points clear at the top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table, although the teams below them have at least two games in hand.
Rugby were far from their best in an end-to-end affair and paid the price for a below par performance when Blaikie’s near post header from a corner at the death beat Matt Hill in the Valley goal.
Rugby are next in action away at Long Buckby on Saturday, February 25 with kick-off at 3pm at Station Road.
