DAVID Kolodynski opened and completed the scoring as Rugby Town returned to action with an impressive 3-0 win away at local rivals Lutterworth Town.

Kolodynski broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time before sealing the win in second-half injury time whilst Jordan Wilson also found the net against his former club at Dunley Way.

The result means Valley now lead the United Counties League Premier Division South table by 13 points although second-placed Coventry Sphinx have four games in hand.

Rugby last took to the pitch on January 7 after the cold weather put pay to each of their last two league matches.

And Carl Adams’ side took a while to hit their stride before Kolodynski opened the scoring on 45 minutes when he produced a first time finish from Caine Elliott’s low cross following a rapid counter attack.

The visitors spurned a golden chance to double their lead when Ryan Seal saw his penalty saved by Lutterworth goalkeeper Warren Butlin early in the second period after Wilson was fouled in the box.

However, Valley eventually found a second goal on 78 minutes as Wilson finished past Butlin when one-on-one after he was played through by Seal.

And Kolodynski added some gloss to the scoreline with the final kick of the game as he reacted quickest to poke home a loose ball from close range after Loyiso Recci’s initial effort bounced down off the crossbar.

The win was Valley’s ninth successive victory in the league and secured a league double over Lutterworth having won 5-2 in the reverse fixture at Butlin Road on Boxing Day.

Rugby are next in action away at Cogenhoe United on Tuesday, January 31 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Compton Park.
