FOOTBALL - Valley rocked by Nirvana in cup exit

RUGBY Town were knocked out in the preliminary round of the League Cup after a much-changed side lost 3-1 at home to Leicester Nirvana.

Valley made nine changes to the side who beat Grantham Town in the FA Cup with an eye on their Second Round Qualifying clash this weekend.

And the visitors took the lead on 39 minutes when Tamar Clayton-Naute beat several players before firing a low effort past Ash Bodycote from 20-yards out.

However, Rugby drew level after the break when Hayden Seymour blasted home on 57 minutes after Edwin Ahenkorah’s initial shot ricocheted into his path.

Leicester reclaimed the lead just two minutes later when Daniel Odunaiya forced the ball home after a slip from Josh Thomas gifted the visitors possession just outside the Rugby penalty area.

And Nirvana wrapped up the win on 77 minutes when Kyle Tott’s low effort found the net from 12-yards out before Valley handed first team debuts to youth players Frankie Episcopo and Ralf Callaway from the bench in the closing stages.

Rugby are next in action away at Basford United in the FA Cup on Saturday, September 17 with kick-off at 3pm at Greenwich Avenue.
