FOOTBALL - Valley score eight in Long Buckby demolition

DAVID Kolodynski scored a hat-trick as Rugby Town secured their biggest win of the season with an 8-0 thrashing of basement club Long Buckby in their first game of the New Year.

Kolodynski struck twice late on to complete his treble having also netted in the first half with Liam Francis, Caine Elliott, Dan Summerfield, Jordan Wilson and Ryan Seal all on target at Butlin Road.

The result means Rugby remain 10 points clear at the top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table and have now won eight consecutive league matches.

Rugby made another fast start as Francis opened the scoring on seven minutes with a header from Seal’s fine cross.

And Valley doubled their lead just four minutes later when Elliott’s shot from the edge of the penalty area deflected past the Long Buckby goalkeeper.

The home side were soon three to the good when Kolodynski scored his first of the afternoon when he smashed the ball home from Wilson’s lay off.

And Rugby scored their fourth first-half goal two minutes later when Summerfield stabbed the ball home from close range at the second attempt.

Valley picked up where they left off after the break when Luke English was fouled in the box only for Wilson to put the resulting penalty wide.

However, Wilson atoned for his penalty miss when he scored Rugby’s fifth goal from Seal’s pass just past the hour mark.

Rugby’s sixth goal did not arrive until the 86th minute when Seal scored from the spot after English was fouled for a second time in the penalty area.

And there was still time for Kolodynski to score twice in the space of two minutes to complete his treble as he sent a dipping volley from 20-yards out into the net before producing a clever flicked finish for his third.

Rugby are next in action away at Milton Keynes Irish on Saturday, January 14 with kick-off at 2pm at Manor Fields.
