RUGBY Town won an eight-goal thriller 5-3 against local rivals Coventry United to extend their winning run in the league to six matches.

Liam Francis, David Kolodynski, a Jake Williams own goal, Jordan Wilson and Josh Thomas all found the net for Valley in a goal bonanza at Butts Park Arena.

The result means Rugby sit 10 points clear at the top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table although second placed Coventry Sphinx have three games in hand.

Rugby made a quick start and took the lead on 15 minutes when Francis opened the scoring before Kolodynski added a second goal just six minutes later.

And Williams’ own goal put the game to bed inside the first 25 minutes before Jarrod Bradshaw responded for the home side.

However, Wilson added Rugby’s fourth goal before the half was out to send Valley into the break with a commanding three-goal lead.

Coventry reduced the deficit when Kyle Carey struck early in the second period but Thomas’s goal on 68 minutes sealed victory for Rugby.

Valley’s MJ Semahimbo had a late penalty saved before United substitute Archie Gallacher struck deep into injury time to add some respectability to the scoreline.

Rugby are next in action away at Cogenhoe United on Saturday, December 17 with kick-off at 3pm at Compton Park.
