JORDAN Wilson scored twice as Rugby Town came from behind to claim an emphatic 5-1 win against Newcastle Town and advance into the next round of the FA Cup.

Wilson drew Valley level before later completing the scoring as Drew Kear, Alex Lock and Loyiso Recci all found the net at Butlin Road.

And the win means Rugby have earned their place in the first round qualifying draw which takes place on Monday (August 21).

However, Valley had to do things the hard away after Lewis Holdham gave Newcastle the lead on seven minutes when he ran through and smashed the ball home.

And after Holdham almost scored a near identical second goal, Rugby levelled through Wilson’s low strike on 23 minutes.

Valley completed the turnaround on 31 minutes when Kear drove into the penalty area and powered a low effort into the net.

However, Rugby were indebted to goalkeeper Matt Hill for keeping the home side’s lead intact as the Valley stopper made a number of fine saves before the break.

And Rugby all but sealed the win on 63 minutes when Lock unleashed a sensational effort from 30-yards out that flew over the keeper’s head just seconds after coming off the bench.

The home side extended their lead on 70 minutes when Recci turned home Karabo Motshweni’s corner from close range.

And Wilson completed the scoring in injury time when the ball ricocheted into the net after he tried to round the goalkeeper from Ryan Sahota’s pass.

Rugby are next in action at home to Corby Town on Tuesday, August 22 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
