JORDAN Wilson’s second-half equaliser earned Rugby Town a point following a 1-1 draw with AFC Rushden and Diamonds as Valley ended their six-game losing run in the league.

Wilson cancelled out Will Glennon’s opener shortly after half time at Hayden Road as Carl Adams’ side picked up their first point in the league since August.

And the result means Rugby remain one point from safety in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone.

Rushden took the lead on 27 minutes when Glennon hooked a loose ball into the top corner after Valley failed to clear their lines at a free-kick.

However, after spurning a number of opportunities in the first half, the visitors equalised on 51 minutes when Wilson headed in after the Rushden goalkeeper parried Caine Elliott’s cross into the scorer’s path.

Valley could have won the game late only for David Kolodynski to lift a shot over the crossbar from Silvano Obeng’s pass.

And Valley goalkeeper Nykah Liburd-Hines made a fine save at the death to ensure the visitors went home with a point as the bottom of the table clash ended all square.

Rugby travel to Bedworth United on Saturday, November 4 with kick-off at 3pm at The Oval.
