FootGolf on the rise in Rugby

IT IS that time of year when people have already dusted down their irons, wedges and putters as the golf season hits full swing, but one new sport hitting the big time this summer is FootGolf.

FootGolf is the fastest growing sport in the UK and combines the two popular sports together to create a fun and energetic new sport.

Players can either choose to play either nine or 18 holes which inclues a mixture of par three’s and par four’s.

The aim of the game is very simple – to get the football in the hole in the least amount of shots.

There are many place across the UK to play FootGolf and one of the most popular destinations is the Leam Valley Golf Centre in Southam Road.

The centre has a nine hole course (six par three?s and three par four’s) which runs alongside a par three course.

“With over size hole cups and yellow flags, the course should be a tricky challenge even for the budding Messi’s and Ronaldo’s out there,” said centre manager Mario Luca.

“We can cater for groups of up to 60 players, with the game proving popular for birthday parties, stag do’s, company days, football teams, families, or just groups of friends.

“We can also put on a BBQ, which has been a big hit with the larger groups.”

FootGolf can be played by people of all ages and abilities and the current course record at Rugby for nine holes currently stands at 26 (four under par).

Mario added: “We opened last October and it has been staggering how popular this great game has been.

“Even through the winter when the weather was cold and wet, the footgolfers still came, but since the spring, it has just gone crazy.”

Prices for a full 18-hole game start at just £10 for adults and £8 for under-16s. A nine-hole game costs £7 for adults and £5 for under-16s. Costs include ball hire although a deposit is needed.

A twilight rare is also available after 5pm where players can enjoy unlimited footgolf for the same price as 18 holes.
