Fourths build up head up of steam - Warwick Hockey Club results round-up

Rugby Editorial 27th Oct, 2020   0

A THIRD successive win has lifted Warwick Fourths up to second in South East Division Two after dispatching of Khalsa Leamington Fifths in clinical style in the Midland Men’s Hockey League.

Visiting Warwick were 6-1 victors in the encounter played at North Leamington School, led by five-star Baz Holton, to keep within touching distance of leaders Leicester City.

Holton struck three times in the space of six minutes to stun Khalsa and put the away side in full control, followed by two more later in the contest.

Captain Claudio Cardellino also netted during the rout, and while Warwick were unable to keep hold of their clean sheet, they do at least take plenty of momentum going into Saturday’s home clash with second-bottom Rugby & East Warwickshire Sixths (2pm).

The men’s Thirds were also in form, beating Khalsa Leamington’s fourth string 4-0 in South East Division One.

As a result, Warwick claim their first win of the campaign and move up to seventh, dealing the first defeat to high-flying KL this term.

Max Grossmith, Chris Roberts, Tom Booker and Hugh Lazenby were all on target during the straightforward victory.

They hope to build on their maiden success this term when visiting Northampton Saints Fourths, who are fifth, in Saturday’s meeting at Moulton College (3pm).

Elsewhere, the men’s Fifths completed the hat-trick of meetings with Khalsa Leamington, holding their Sixth team to a 1-1 draw in South East Division Three.

In an equally-fought encounter, Warwick struck first through James Hawkins with a fine solo effort, cancelled out by a short-corner goal later in the first half.

Sixth-placed Warwick head to Market Harborough Thirds, ninth, on Saturday (1pm),
