FOOTBALL: RUGBY Town Under 7s ended their season in style, winning the Godiva Spring Trophy Final against Christ the King Reds 4-0.

The youngsters first had to defeat Coundon Court in the semi-final stage, which went down to penalties.

With the wind blowing down field throughout the semi-final, the opening half was going to be tricky for the Under 7s team who found themselves 2-0 down from a pair of well taken chances.

Tigers’ comeback started when Max took full advantage of a long range effort – his strike was handled in the area, gifting Town a penalty which was converted.

The Tigers dominated the second half with Arjan, Max and Henry all going close – hitting the woodwork and seeing shots saved.

Jayden was excellent in defence and gave goalkeeper Alex great protection.

A long range free kick from Max levelled the scores before a good run and finish completed his hat trick to put the Tigers 3-2 up.

However a late equaliser sent the game to penalties.

Jayden, Arjan and Alex all converted their penalties while Max saved three shots to give the Tigers victory and a place in the final.

In the final, Rugby played Christ the King Reds to determine which team would be ranked the highest.

Goalkeeper Alex was outstanding and made three saves to prevent certain goals.

His bravery blocking shots and throwing himself at the ball was remarkable.

The defence was given a stern test, with Jayden, Gabriel and Henry all putting in great performances – including a last gasp tackle from Jayden stopping an almost certain goal.

Going forward Arjan, Gabriel and Fin played well on the wings, skillfully beating players and laying the ball off.

The Tigers took the lead through Max’s blistering strike, before he later added a second to calm the nerves.

Henry then finished off a good team move to make it 3-0, before Max completed his hat trick with another long range free kick.

A strong team performance which saw them lift the trophy.
