CROSSBOW: IT WAS gold again for Iris Bingham after she took the top prize at the National Crossbow Federation’s National 18m Indoor Championship.

Bingham, from the Rugby Sport for the Disabled, came home with another gold medal, this time in the 25cm target at the event held near Gloucester at the weekend.

Her score of 589 out of 600 saw her crowned winner of the ‘assisted lay target’ category.

“The straw boss was so hard my bolts could not be removed,” said Bingham. “I believe my bolts bent, causing six of my shots to go in the nine. The organiser agreed to swap my boss and I had to change my bolts.

“The venue was very cold and despite six heaters, the temperature only reached 7c. I wore six tops and three pairs of trousers!”

Other winners on the day were Graeme Peatfield who won the ‘medieval’ category with a score of 399, Tony Reynolds won the ‘gentleman target’ with 515 and the ‘lady target’ event was won by Laura Peatfield (507).

The ‘sporting bow’ was won by Adam Rapsey with 528 points, while a score of 576 was enough for Graeme Watkins to win the ‘guest target’.
