RUGBY’S Edward Hayle was crowned Boys Net 18-hole champion at the Warwickshire Junior Order of Merit Grand Final held at Handsworth Golf Club.

Some 53 talented young golfers representing 23 different golf clubs from across Warwickshire competed on the picturesque course.

Invitations were sent to the leading 12 boys and girls in the Gross and Net categories of the 18-hole Order of Merit, plus any junior who has competed in a nine-hole Junior Open in Warwickshire this year – the event attracted a full field.

Miles Pegg (Stonebridge) edged out Anthony Bridgeman (The Belfry) on countback in the Boys Net 18-hole competition after both shot net 70.

Oliver Clark (Ladbrook Park) finished runner-up to Coventry Hearsall’s Chanon James in the Boys Gross category.

Maisie Halstead (Kenilworth) won the Girls Gross prize with a level par 73 and also finished runner-up in the Net competition behind Olton’s Molly Moffat, who triumphed by one shot with a net 67.

Serafima Taylor (Pype Hayes) and Katie Drew (Copt Heath) won the girls nearest the pin and longest drives respectively.

In the nine-hole competitions, Stanley Carter (Atherstone) compiled the best boys score of net 25 to finish five clear of William Hardy (Maxstoke Park), while Elsie Glover (Kenilworth) led the girls event by two from Megan Bickley (Nuneaton) with net 28.

Alex Garner (Robin Hood) and Lucy Stone (Maxstoke Park) won the boys and girls nearest the pin competitions, but they weren’t the only players to collect awards as every player who qualified for the Grand Final received a unique prize.

With the results from 10 Junior Open’s, the County Boys Under-18 and Under-14 Championships, the County Girls Championship and two Girls Stableford series events counting towards the 2022 Order of Merit, the six category winners picked up their trophies.

Callum Lee (Moor Hall) was crowned Boys Gross 18-hole champion, Edward Hayle (Rugby) picked up the Boys Net 18-hole award, while Serafima Taylor and Jessica Davies (The Warwickshire) clinched the Girls Gross and Net 18-hole titles respectively.

William Hardy (Maxstoke Park) won four events during the year to top the Boys nine-hole Order of Merit, while Erin Thompson (Copt Heath) claimed three victories on her way to topping the Girls nine-hole table.
