A FIVE wicket haul from Nick Crane and a maiden half century from Frank Claydon saw Willoughby enjoy a comfortable 108 run home win over visitors Byfield A in the South Northants League Division One.

Batting first on a unusually lively wicket, the hosts started steady enough with Ian Andrews make 23 at the top of the order but having reached 60 for 3 at the halfway point of the innings, the rest of the top order again got starts but failed to fire and Willoughby found themselves at 110 for 7 and once again struggling to make a sizeable total to bowl at.

That was until Claydon was joined by Crane and together they put an unbeaten partnership of 61 to take Willoughby to 180 for 7 off their 40 overs. Claydon finished with a fine unbeaten 52 and Crane also not out with 23. Nigel Cook taking 3 for 29 for the visitors.

In reply, Byfield had no answer to the bowling of Crane who continues to enjoy his debut season for the season by picking up 5 for 10 in only seven overs.

Troy Reeves took 3 for 17 and John Gregson 2 for 26 as Byfield were bowled out in under 20 overs. John Street and Joe Newby with 18 and 14 respectively the only visiting batsmen to make it into double figures.
