THE FINAL ever football to be played at Hillmorton’s former ground at Leicester Road produced a superb Under-13 final against two local Rugby sides.

Hillmortan entered two teams into the final six-a-side event and made history by being crowned winners thanks to a victory over Rugby Town Colts.

Hillmorton Clarets recorded four victories and lost just once on their way to the semi-finals, with James Evans scoring three goals along the way.

And Hillmorton Blue also made it to the final four having won four of their group matches.

Both Hillmorton sides met in the semi-final which the Clarets won thanks to a fourth goal of the tournament by Evans, which set up a local derby in the final against Rugby Town Colts.

It proved to be a true showing of local derby style football with both sides having their fair share of chances.

The match finished 0-0 which resulted in extra-time and that is when the Clarets scored the winning goal through Pierce Ryan who poked the ball home from close range.

Hillmorton Under-14s are on the lookout for new players ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

*PLAYERS from Rugby Town Girls’ Under-13 side swapped their football boots for running shoes to take part in a 5km run on Sunday.

Coach Isaac Ashmore joined the team and managed to finish ahead of them in a challenge that had been thrown down during training in the closing weeks last season.

It proved to be a double celebration for Phoebe Stewart who led the team home on her birthday. The youngsters enjoyed a quick kickabout after the game in the heavy downfall.
