GARY Hipwell demonstrated his determination and courage after fighting back in Round Five of the BWA West Midlands Cyclocross League held at Fillongley Events Centre.
The course featured sections of deep mud and in the morning’s veteran’s race Hipwell slipped away from the leading pack after an early fall.
However a relentless race-long charge saw him work his way back up to finish seventh. David Garrett followed eight places behind whilst Pete Mooney took a class win in the 65+ class.
The course conditions worsened for the afternoon’s senior race and despite recovering from a week-long cold Jeremy Hicks took fifth place.
James Garrett and Jordan Peacock found themselves racing one another for much of the race but the former dropped his rival on the final lap to take 12th while Peacock came over the line in 13th.
