NETBALL is returning to Rugby for the summer season, thanks to the success of the inaugural winter season.
Leagues4you, who organise sporting leagues around the UK, are appealing for new players and teams to join them over the summer months, and point to the influx of returning players to the game as the perfect incentive to get back on the court.
A latest study by Sport England revealed that Britain is one of the least active areas in Europe, with one third of people not getting at least half an hour of exercise a week – let alone the recommended 150 minutes per week.
But with the physical and mental health benefits that are associated with playing team sports, Leagues4you are hoping to convince more women to join them for the season.
Beth Pickering, league coordinator, said she’s hoping to see a number of new faces signing up.
“We’re passionate about getting people back into sport and make playing as hassle free as possible.
“We take away a lot of the barriers that prevent women from taking part, so more people can go from couch to court.”
She said anyone over 14 was welcome to join regardless of ability, fitness and age.
She re-iterated that players over the age of 14, regardless of their ability, fitness or age welcome to play.
“Within the league we sort out court hire, umpires and the required kit, bibs and balls.
“You can join leagues as a team, small group of friends or individually.
“Many of our teams are a group of likeminded people who were once strangers. The cost is £32 per team per match, less than £5 per player!”
Several matches take place throughout the evening sessions, held every Thursday, starting at 7pm, at Rugby School Sports Centre, with the leagues getting underway on June 6.
