Lee Kamp finishes third at the European Championships

WOLSTON based cycle speedway rider Lee Kemp starred in Poole at the European Championships picking up third place in the junior tournament.

Featuring dozens of the sport’s best European riders – who flew in from across the continent – the tournament took place as southern tracks Southampton and Poole.

Kemp, who works as a chef, has always proved a dominant figure in cycle speedway – proved by his Elite League success with Wednesfield last year.

Drawn with two grid two positions throughout his five rides, Kemp started positively with a win in his opening ride before racing to three second places – taking him to 13 points from four rides.

A win from his final ride would be enough to secure second place, however Kemp was squeezed out in the first turn and could only manage third place behind his two Polish rivals.

Kemp finished on 15 points – joint third with British race Adam Watson.

Crucially, the teenager won the coin toss to decide the grid position – leaving Kemp to race away and secure his first medal at a major cycle speedway final.

Kemp will next be in Elite League action on Sunday (September 25) when title contenders Wednesfield travel to Poole for their penultimate fixture.
